Currently the new project flow for a user is a little more difficult that it could be. The Launch Shortcuts require an executable to exist before they will operate. However, it should be possible to do the initial build (or offer to) as part of the launch shortcut flow.

Note that this affects not only new projects, but importing existing projects. As an experienced CDT user I don't really think about it too much, but I was recently reminded how this is an issue for new users on stack overflow:
